Reason for arrest given as suspicion of burglary and assault. Wilkinson refused to tell Custody Officer his particulars and these had to be supplied by DI Ord. When asked to acknowledge his rights and a copy of the same, Wilkinson refused to speak. He was then asked to sign to agree that he had been informed that he could have a solicitor informed of his arrest. Wilkinson again refused to speak to the police. Wilkinson refused to name anyone that he wanted the police to inform of his arrest. Wilkinson was then asked to sign for his property and again refused. (Cigarettes and lighter were then taken from him to 'prevent damage'.) Wilkinson's arrest was timed at 7.45am; Arrival at North Shields police station was timed at 8.00am.
