You are getting this email because you are already aware of, and may be actively involved in, Frank's case. If you want to be removed from the newsletter distribution list, just send an email saying so. Otherwise, you will continue receiving it from time to time with news of any developments.

I am currently engaged on a letter campaign to highlight two aspects of Frank's case:

1. His case illustrates the Catch 22 situation of prisoners maintaining innocence and over tariff 2. Unlike some prisoners in that situation, Frank has undertaken offending behaviour work but this is simply not being recognised by the system, probably through sheer inefficiency.

To keep interested parties in the picture, here is the story of the letter campaign so far:

13/10/2008

Letter to all ministers within the Ministry of Justice (see sample letter here). This resulted in one being forwarded to the Briefing and Caswork Unit in the National Offender Management Service (see point 4 below) and one being forwarded to the Ministerial Correspondence Unit, whose reply was too mechanical to warrant any further correspondence.

09/11/2008

Letter to the two local MP's involved - Angela C Smith (my MP - see letter here) and Alan Campbell (MP for Tynemouth, the constituency Frank was living in at the time of his arrest - see letter here). So far I have had no response from either.

09/11/2008

Letter to all MP's (see sample letter here ). Responses to this are still coming in. The most promising so far is from Michael Moss, MP for North East Cambridgeshire, the constituency in which HMP Whitemoor stands. He has written to Jack Straw and has tabled as written questions the questions I suggested in the letter. He will let me know the answers as soon as he has them. (Thanks, Malcolm.)

03/11/2008 and 17/11/2008

Letters in response to replies from the Briefing and Caswork Unit in the National Offender Management Service. It seemed worthwhile engaging this office in correspondence - you never know, they might start sounding like human beings eventually! (See first response from NOMS here and my reply to it here. See second response from NOMS here and my reply to it here

Some time soon

Letter to all members of the House of Lords (see planned letter here).
